Bo Bichette has been the Toronto Blue Jays’ best power-hitting shortstop for quite some time now. He passed Alex Gonzalez on the franchise’s shortstop home run list on July 1, 2023, with his 84th career home run. But what the right-handed slugger did over the weekend officially put him in uncharted territory for Blue Jays players at his position.
An injury-shortened 2024 season made it take a lot longer than initially anticipated, but Bichette reached triple digits with his 100th career home run on May 31.

As MLB.com’s Keegan Matheson notes in the above post on X, it was Bichette’s third homer in four games. This blast was his seventh of the year. He’s racked up that many taters through 58 games played and 263 plate appearances. That’s already surpassed his 2024 production in less time — Bichette slugged four homers in 81 games (336 plate appearances) last season.
Bichette is on pace to challenge the 20-homer plateau for the fourth time in his career. He surpassed that number three years in a row between 2021 and 2023. He was among the league’s more productive shortstops on offense during this time, too:
- 2021: .828 OPS, 29 homers, 102 RBI
- 2022: .802 OPS, 24 homers, 93 RBI
- 2023: .814 OPS, 20 homers, 73 RBI
The 27-year-old recorded at least 175 hits in each campaign, leading the league in that category during both 2021 and 2022.

Will Bo Bichette Finish 2025 With the Blue Jays?
It’s a good thing Bichette reached triple digits with Toronto now because who knows how much longer he’ll be with the organization. He’s in the final season of a three-year, $33.6 million contract and is expected to test free agency this winter.
He’s been the subject of trade rumors for about a year at this point since the Jays disappointed in 2024. They’re currently in contention, though — Toronto is 31–28 on the season. That puts them just 0.5 games out of the final American League Wild Card spot. But all it takes is one well-timed cold streak to turn a club on the bubble from a potential buyer to a seller ahead of the trade deadline. So while it seems like he’ll be finishing this season with the Jays, it’s still up in the air.
What the Top of the All-Time Shortstop Home Run Leaderboard Looks Like
Reaching the 100-homer plateau is a huge accomplishment and something that should be appropriately celebrated. But now that he’s officially reached triple digits, it’s natural to look at what could potentially be next. Still, the shortstop has plenty of work to do when it comes to getting toward the top of the all-time positional home run leaderboard.
Here’s what the top five of that list looks like right now, per Statmuse:
- Cal Ripken Jr.: 353
- Alex Rodriguez: 345
- Ernie Banks: 298
- Miguel Tejada: 285
- Francisco Lindor: 261
