Ex-MLB All-Star Hunter Pence’s Malibu Home Is Available for $39 Million

Hearing anyone talk about outfielder Hunter Pence also immediately makes me think of the San Francisco Giants. It makes sense — he spent eight of his 14 big-league seasons by the Bay and won two titles with the club. But a home purchase he made while playing for the Giants is now hitting the market.

According to Elite Agent’s Rowan Crosby, the former slugger has listed his custom-built oceanfront Malibu mansion for a cool $39 million.

Pence dropped $6.5 million on a blufftop property overlooking the Pacific in 2016 while he was still patrolling the outfield at Oracle Park. But then, he demolished the original structure and spent years building something amazing from the ground up. The result is a 7,356-square-foot contemporary masterpiece that was only completed this year, per Mansion Global.

The three-story split-level design focuses on the California indoor-outdoor lifestyle. It includes 12-foot ceilings throughout, floor-to-ceiling glass sliders that erase the boundary between inside and out, and a main living space anchored by a bay fireplace. The kitchen features bar seating for six, too.

With four bedrooms and six and a half bathrooms, the Compass listing highlights a primary suite with a spa-inspired bathroom, walk-in closet, and studio/office space. There’s also a home theatre, bar area with a wine fridge, and a gym that could convert into a fifth bedroom. The wraparound deck overlooking the Pacific features a 93-foot lap pool, hot tub, built-in barbecue, and a sandy beach area below.

It’s almost as if he thought about every detail, right? You can see pictures from the listing here

A Giant Among Giants in San Francisco

Pence acquired this property during one of the most significant chapters of his career. His distinctive batting stance (and swing) plus his boundless amount of energy made him a fan favorite. Being a part of two World Series-winning teams doesn’t hurt, either.

While the latter part of his Giants tenure featured more run-of-the-mill numbers, his first two full seasons in San Francisco were excellent. From 2013-14, Pence slashed .280/.335/.464 with 47 home runs, 64 doubles, 15 triples, 173 RBI, and 197 runs scored in 1,395 plate appearances.

It’s also worth noting that he played in every single regular-season game during both seasons, which resulted in one All-Star Game selection (2014) and a pair of top-20 finishes in National League MVP Award voting.

The Texas Resurgence Nobody Saw Coming

By 2018, it looked like Father Time was catching up with Pence. His production dipped significantly in his final season with San Francisco, as he finished with a .590 OPS and -1.0 bWAR in 97 games. But a change of scenery led to one more impressive season for the right-handed slugger.

The Texas Rangers took a chance on the 36-year-old veteran, and he delivered big time. Pence shocked everyone by hitting .297/.358/.552 with 18 home runs and 59 RBI across 83 games. That’s not just “good for his age” production – those are legitimately impressive numbers regardless of age, and it also led to him earning his fourth and final All-Star selection.

Hunting for Hunter Pence Baseball Cards

While he might not command extremely high prices in the card-collecting world, Pence has several releases that smart collectors should keep on their radar.

His 2007 Bowman Chrome Draft Prospects auto is the crown jewel. These typically fetch anywhere from $100 to $300 based on condition, with gem mint PSA 10 examples commanding premium prices. For fans who remember his dynamic playing style, owning authenticated memorabilia from his rookie year carries special significance.

The 2008 Topps Update rookie card is another solid option. It’s more affordable and accessible for collectors just getting started. You can usually find these in the $10-$30 range, perfect for building a collection without breaking the bank. And if you’re looking for something with championship pedigree, any card from his 2012 or 2014 World Series-winning seasons carries extra juice among Giants fans.
