Where Alonso Stands in Mets HR History Entering 2025
Alonso is only 30 years old, but he’s already one of the most prolific power hitters in Mets history. And since he’s a homegrown player, it’s fair to say that New York has never produced a slugger quite like him. He’s entering the 2025 campaign with 226 homers, which ranks third all-time in Mets history.
The only players still ahead of him on the leaderboard are David Wright (242 homers) and Darryl Strawberry (252 homers). Once Alonso passes both of them, he’ll be the proud owner of both the Mets’ all-time and single-season home run records. He secured the latter during his 2019 National League Rookie of the Year Award-winning campaign.
A Breakdown of Alonso’s Yearly Home Run Production
Alonso has been in the big leagues with the Mets since 2019. He’s finished every single one of those seasons as New York’s home run leader. Here’s a look at his yearly home run production:
- 2019: 53
- 2020: 16
- 2021: 37
- 2022: 40
- 2023: 46
- 2024: 34
The right-handed slugger needs just 27 homers to pass Strawberry and become the Mets’ all-time home run leader. Since he’s never finished a 162-game season with fewer than 34 taters, that milestone seems well within reach this season. FanGraphs’ Steamer projections have Alonso pegged for 36 homers in 2025.
