With MLB’s All-Star Game festivities happening in Seattle this year, there had to be a Mariners player willing and able to serve as the unofficial host. That honor goes to outfielder Julio Rodriguez. He was the first player to announce his entry into the Home Run Derby, and he’ll be looking to follow up on a historic 2022 performance. Either way, we’ll be following along with our Julio Rodriguez Home Run Derby 2023 Tracker.

Round 1 vs. Pete Alonso: 41 Home Runs
You’d think that participating in the Home Run Derby at your home ballpark would add a little extra stress to the event overall. Not for J-Rod, though. A year after wowing everyone in the first round last season, he outdid himself in 2023 with 41 home runs. 41! Here’s the carnage:

Round 2 vs. Vladimir Guerrero Jr.: 20 Home Runs
How do you follow up on the biggest round in Home Run Derby history? J-Rod did a more than admirable job with 20 homers. He looked gassed by the end, though, and understandably so. It opened the door for Vlad Jr. to bypass Seattle’s preferred choice to reach the final.
Rodriguez put together one of the most insane Home Run Derby performances we’ve ever seen as a rookie in 2022. And that goes for a single round and the entire event. Read more about it in the following articles.
